On completion of this module students will present a dissertation which demonstrates their ability to:
- independently formulate and research a question within the area of crime;
- carry out independent research into a topic in the field of crime;
- show their in depth knowledge and understanding of debates in relation to crime in their chosen topic of enquiry;
- evaluate the debates and/or empirical evidence and methods they have used in the dissertation;
- write an extended piece of work in the field of crime.
Students will gain:
- an in depth knowledge directly of literature related to their chosen topic;
- knowledge of research in the area related to their chosen topic;
- practical knowledge of research.
This module provides student with the opportunity to practice and develop high level skills in:
- Written and interpersonal communication;
- Organisation and planning an extended piece of work and independent research;
- Personal skills such as problem solving, adaptability and initiative;
- Numeracy and IT and computer literacy.
The content shall be negotiated between the student and their supervisor.
